[LEE HYUNJOONG's story] "Trash Talk"
It's the first spring season at Davidson University. Spring on campus feels new because it's my first time. That's why I'm enjoying it.
Looking back, I think three years at Davidson University was a series of new things. Especially the first season. It was a whole new life.
A typical example would be the first time you took a private jet to go to an away game. When I got on the plane for the first time, I was surprised when I held my cell phone, took pictures, and took videos in front of the plane. It feels like I'm a professional player
On the other hand, 2nd to 4th graders are busy packing because they are used to it. I've become the same since I became a third grader. I enjoyed watching first graders looking around with cell phones like me. It felt like an away game as much as riding a plane. The opposing team's fans booed to interrupt the game as much as possible, and it was a great experience to play in that atmosphere.
Especially, I feel it every time I go to Dayton University, but it's really hard. The big gym was full of spectators, and I was embarrassed because I couldn't hear any conversation between us on the court, no matter how loud the cheers were. At that time, Dayton University had OBI TOPPIN (New York Knicks), and it was the fourth-largest powerhouse in the United States, so home fans seemed to be louder.
I used my number 1 in college. Originally, I wanted to wear KLAY THOMPSON's number 11, but they said I can't use it because it's a school's permanent number. So I looked it up and found that Thompson was number one when he was at Washington State University.
As a joke, when I was in Korea, my acquaintances once told me that number 11 looked better on me. It's skinny, so two chopsticks (11) go well together. Since I can't use number 11 here, I used it like, "Then one chopstick." Also, when I was in the first grade of high school, I didn't feel awkward because I wore number 1.
During the first season, I had no choice but to admit the difference in skills. This season, I played the role of a ball handler, but I wasn't a freshman. There are many talented players, so I accepted it. If I trusted him, his teammates would have given him the ball first. I thought a lot about it because I knew I wasn't good enough. I'm worried if I can help the team and do well on my own. Before I said, "Why aren't you giving it to me?" It was important to trust me and make me give the ball.
That's why I focused on shooting training. I felt something while attending the NBA Academy and my first year of college. I have to do one thing really well.
OBI TOPPIN was a really great player in our A-10 conference. At the time, TOPPIN had a matchup with our team Luca (Brykovich), and he was good in size, but he didn't think he was too strong to play in the NBA. In fact, he wasn't the main player in the NBA. Rather, I thought I should become a specialized player like Duncan Robinson (Miami Hit) and Matisse Thybulle (Philadelphia 76ERS) who can come up with one name. I had this mindset that I should conquer one. It was like that at the Academy. There were a lot of players who jumped so fast that they could open their mouths. However, even if the jump was good, there were many players who didn't do anything while playing.
I threw a three-point shot in the corner, and it got blocked and the ball flew to the stands! The layup was blocked, and I thought I would go in a three-point shot, but I flew in a ridiculous direction. Two free throws. That's it. I was depressed.토토
